Shows in the City

It’s starting to get cold again, and all the hipster beards are finally coming in handy. With the changing leaves come many things such as wearing a jacket, and pumpkin spice everything. But the fall is also a great time to start checking out the shows around Winnipeg, we’ve got tons of great music coming to town!

Today I’m gonna promote a few shows happening soon in Winnipeg. If you can afford a case of beer, you can afford almost any venue in the city.

If you don’t think Winnipeg has talent then check these guys out on youtube! The Brothers Landreth are going to be playing at the Burt tonight! They’re an amazing local band with a soulful rock sound. It’s inspiring to see local guys building a name for themselves in the business. Their show is October 17 @ the Burton Cummings Theatre.

If you’ve ever been to the Burt then you can appreciate the classic feel of the venue. It looks like an old church that was abandoned and reopened by Led Zeppelin. I’ve been to almost 10 shows at the Burton Cummings Theatre and it gets better with each visit. They constantly have great shows happening so be sure to check their website for more.

Mac Demarco is a Canadian wild child that will be blessing the Garrick Theatre with his presence on November 5th. He’s been on the scene for four or five years and has gained popularity very rapidly over the last year. He’s touring to promote his new album Another One. I know every word to most of his songs, so if you attend you can definitely find me rocking out somewhere in the crowd.

Mika-Dawn is a close friend of mine and an insanely talented song writer. She recently released her debut album Oil Man, and she’s making a trip to Winnipeg on November 4th to perform at the Garrick Hotel! She plays acoustic folk style guitar with lyrics that give you a chill.

Push it, push it realllll good. Salt-N-Pepa is coming to Club Regent Casino on Friday October 23. Nothing to do with guitar, but my god it’s SALT-N-PEPA! If you’re free that night please go and tell me how it was. I can’t attend but I wish I could. Not every band is a stand-out or as influential as the Rolling Stones. But when we see these names making appearances in our little city we should support them!

I’ve given you four potential dates, now go ask that guy/girl/bottle of wine that’s on your mind and it’s sure to be a great night with new music. Musicians love performing but not with an empty venue, lets support the local scene!
